Dekeyser was replacement level at best before the injury. Another bad contract by Holland. Hopefully he’s healthy enough to enjoy life after hockey.

Very, very doubtful. Healthy scratch the last 6 games and 5 million through next season.

That is an interesting take. I don’t know if that’s where Yzerman’s mind is at, but very interesting

Not much NHL time, scratch all season. Just a handful of games. Recorded 12 points in 41 AHL games last year.

6'5" at 192#s he can't be all that strong, but has a lot of reach
He could be a DK replacement though

Agreed. He can take Dekeysers roster spot.

Maybe Stevie really needs to save as much cap as he can for that big strike near the TDL
St Louis will have to clear $7M for Tarasenko's return

TDL is April I think. You gain cap space every day. Projected deadline cap space is 33 million at this point. This may be something else

Cap is daily accrual so you don’t technically gain space every day.

The $33M would be an ANUAL contract value.

Not to be too much of a “downer”, but this may be a decision that gives Dekeyser time to think about if he wants to retire. He’s got a family, the quarantines take a huge toll on some of the players. I don’t know that to be the case, but it wouldn’t be the first we’ve heard of something like this.

The shutdown has affected so many of us in different ways. There were players who did fine in the bubble, but there were some who were broken by it. The thought of life after hockey is probably on the front of more player’s minds than before. At one point, the divorce rate for players who retire was almost 70%. It’s not easy to make the switch. This, for some, is every day of their lives since they were 5 years old. Once it stops, it stops abruptly. The NHLPA is working on better exiting strategies to help players adjust, but it’s not where it needs to be. I don’t know if any of this is relevant but it certainly bears consideration.

But in essence you do. A player’s “actual” cap hit is lower by the trade deadline.

I’m well aware of how it works. A trade only counts as the prorated amount of cap hit left based on league days remaining that season.

OK, at that rate taking on Carlson and still having Dekeyser's salary is a nothing burger.
If DeKeyser is in the minors than Carlson's salary would amount to a little less than DK's salary if he were in NHL.....not a big deal. Carlson does have another year on his deal but that all can be buried if need be.

Per cap friendly “The deadline cap space is the total sum of cap hit values that the current daily cap hit can be increased by to remain complaint below that cap at season’s end”. I.E. - you can add the pro rated hits of players up to the amount of that projected space. When the season ends, however, every cap hit resets and you have to become compliant again before next season. There is even a ceiling on how far over you can be

The only issue with picking a player up is that they have to stay on your roster. If they don’t work out, waivers open them up to be picked up again. Detroit has a certain protocol when they tell a player, “find a place”. Up until then they may be living in a hotel. It’s interesting how excited guys get to have to start cleaning their own bedroom.

It is just so much easier to figure if kept at the AAV then to refigure at the prorated value. That is why their are so many accountants in the NHL. To bad the government can't use some of their accountants to figure a REAL budget!

I also see CBJ will have to clear some cap on Nyquist's return. I don't see that he is skating yet, but as I mentioned Tarasenko is skating and is expected back in March

This team is currently accruing cap space because their daily cap hit is less than their ACSL

Interesting note on some teams on Cap Friendly. Apparently you can "increase" (for lack of a better word) your teams' cap space.

I keep circling back to Galchenyuk. Very low cap hit. Could possibly help at center. I have no idea. Just interesting

Waste of a roster spot. Play Rasmussen instead.
